  • Scripture: John 14:26, Luke 18-20

  • Key Concepts

    • The personhood of the Holy Spirit is difficult to understand, but it is revealed to us in Scripture, in tradition, and through the prophets.

    • The titles of the Holy Spirit give insight into His role in our lives and in the life of the Church.

    • Looking at the Sacraments of Initiation, we learn that the Church cannot be separated from the workings of the Holy Spirit.

    Key Terms

    • Prayer: The elevation of the mind and heart to God in praise of His glory; a petition made to God for some desired good, or in thanksgiving for a good received, or in intercession for others before God.

    • Sacrament: An efficacious sign of grace, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church, by which divine life is dispensed to us through the work of the Holy Spirit.

    • Trinity: The mystery of one God in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The revealed truth of the Holy Trinity is at the very root of the Church’s living faith as expressed in the Creed.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And you shall renew the face of the Earth. O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
