Scripture: Luke 2:1-7
Main Ideas:
It is normal and acceptable to grieve the ways in which this Christmas looks different than years past.
Mary and Joseph faced unexpected circumstances for the birth of Jesus, and we can draw upon their example and intercession in a powerful way this year.
At Christmas, Jesus humbly enters into the messiness of life and shows us how true joy is found in Him and not in the activities surrounding Christmas.

Start a New Tradition
As a family, create a list of some of the spiritual Advent and Christmas traditions we have in the Catholic Church. (Suggestions to get you started: Feast of St. Nicholas, Advent wreath, Jesse tree, Nativity scene)
Brainstorm more Catholic spiritual Advent and Christmas traditions and add them to your list. Here are some questions you can discuss to help with your brainstorming:
How do you like to pray? How can we incorporate Advent or Christmas into that form of prayer?
What spiritual aspects of Advent and Christmas do you/your family already practice?
How can you encourage your family and/or friends to focus on the spiritual elements of Christmas with you?
What are some non-spiritual Christmas traditions you love? How can you add a spiritual element to those traditions?
Finally, look over the list and find one spiritual tradition you don’t already do, but would like to try this year. Participate in this new tradition - individually or as a family - especially knowing that other Christmas traditions may not happen this year.
