  • Scripture: Luke 2:22, 2:39-40, 2:51-52, 3:23

  • Main Ideas:

    • While Jesus is widely known for what He did during His public ministry, He did not begin preaching and traveling until the age of 30.

    • Jesus was born into a poor family and lived simply for the majority of His life, learning, growing, and obeying His parents.

    • Jesus knows what it is like to live day-to-day life; with Him, we can find meaning in our ordinary, daily tasks.

Jesus in My Day Prayer

Have with you the completed “Day in My Life” handout. Reflect for a moment on the times you recognized Jesus’ presence and/or the times when you didn’t.

Sign of the Cross

There are definitely moments when it is more obvious that Jesus is present, but there are many moments when it is difficult to see that He is near to us and easy to take for granted the unlimited access we have to Him. Whichever category you fall into or if your day is a combination of all of the above, it is OK. There is no right or wrong place to be in this moment of prayer. Take a moment to tell Jesus exactly what you are thinking about your day.

Pause for a moment.

If you are struggling to recognize Him, doubting that He is present, or unsure about why you should care, tell Him so at this time. If you are amazed by how He showed up for you, excited about what He is doing in your life, or grateful for a particular moment of your day, tell Him so at this time.

Pause for a moment.

Jesus, thinking back to our day today, we bring to mind the moments when we recognized you and the moments when we wish we would have seen you. We ask that you do what you need in our lives. We thank you for the access we have to you, even if we do not recognize it. Help us become more aware of you every day and take your presence less and less for granted. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for use sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Life & Dignity of the Human Person

Definition

The Catholic Church proclaims that human life is sacred and that the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society. This belief is the foundation of all the principles of our social teaching. In our society, human life is under direct attack from abortion and euthanasia. The value of human life is being threatened by cloning, embryonic stem cell research, and the use of the death penalty. The intentional targeting of civilians in war or terrorist attacks is always wrong. Catholic teaching also calls on us to work to avoid war. Nations must protect the right to life by finding increasingly effective ways to prevent conflicts and resolve them by peaceful means. We believe that every person is precious, that people are more important than things, and that the measure of every institution is whether it threatens or enhances the life and dignity of the human person.

Act of Service for Life & Dignity

Pray for an end to the use of the death penalty. Also consider praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet for a specific person in Texas on death row.
